    Hej Folks,

since im digging in Kontakt and play around with KSP i found the deeper possibilitys and pro features of Kontakt are very bad documented and unclear at some points, less examples.. I hope NI will spend more time on a better documentation for the flagship products.

I searched the KSP reference & manual about handling Zones / Zone IDs and how they working. There is no info around. It would be nice to know how Zones IDs wil be created and why not at some points. When i use the auto slice funtion in Kontakt all slices will just have the ZoneID "-1" until i edit something in the wave editor window. I like to remap ZoneIDs starting at a given number over a multiselection of zones in the mapping editor or monitor.

You cannot modify zone IDs at all, they are auto-generated by Kontakt. You have an overview of them on Monitor->Zones tab.

    Hi,

I had the same thought last week and simply wrote an email to the NI support team. I suggested that they could update the "Kontakt Script Language Manual" from 2006, especially with all the new midi file playback features and so on. They replied really fast and politely and said that they would inform the right people, but could not promise anything of course. I think that more of you guys could write this suggestion to the NI support team so that they know about the demand, but please always as nice as possible.
Maybe one day we all can enjoy a deeply detailed KSP Manual and not a "Reference Manual".

    Best regards

    Hej ED,

this is what i mean. When i slice a audio file in Kontakt all ZoneIDs of the slices are -1 . As you know fro mthe other thread i like to use Waveform_UI for displaying the waveform but after slicing it fails related to the ZoneIDs which are not mapped right.

Have a nice XMAS & thanks!

Create zones from slices then? If you use the "Drag MIDI" option and drag it to the Mapping Editor it will create zones for chromatic slices automatically. Those zones should have IDs.

This is how i tryed it very often. Now it works but it seems if there too much slices to map chromatically the new slices will be get a -1 (out of range or so).

It's always good to have a sensible number of slices (say, up to 32 - I'd never go above 64 personally).

Thanks gain ED, these are such side-infos which needed to be stated in the tutorial/manuals. For now i will play around a bit with the scripting engine.

Just a quick revival on this:
Yes wekah was right but only about part of it. When you click "Drag Midi to Host" and it creates the zones from the slices into a new group yes, the zones in the Expert - Zones tab apear all with a -1 number. BUT, if you save, close and reload the instrument (NKI) it will then show zone numbers there. voilà.
