DESCRIPTION

This entry is the central place where you can find patches made with KNBSTRB8 Blocks.

Version 2.0

The patches that were posted up to version 1.5 have been replaced with 6 new patches consisting out of blocks coming from the KNBSTRB8 Collection version 1.5 update. The 1.5 version update for the collection brought functionality upgrades for many earlier released blocks that were used in the version 1.0 - 1.5 patches released under this post. Instead of re-releasing the existing patches with updated blocks, I posted the following 6 new ones (3 synthesizers and 3 generative patches) instead.

FM DUO playable synth

Synthesizer with 4 voices that is played from the MIDI host. This patch looks like the 3 OSC and 1 VCA patch from version 1.

Voices (MOD - VCA Squad):
VCA 1: OSC - FM DUO, Main Oscillator (MOD - AD Squad, AD 1)
VCA 2: OSC - FM DUO, Sub Oscillator (MOD - AD Squad, AD 2)
VCA 3: OSC - FM DUO, Noise mix (MOD - AD Squad, AD 3)
VCA 4: OSC - FM DUO, FM mix (MOD - AD Squad, AD 4)

The 4 VCA's are triggered by MOD - ADSR.

Modulation:
Mod A: MOD - LFO DUO.
Mod B: MOD - ADSR. Exceptions: INT - P&G gets Mod B input from PRO - RNG for modulation of the velocity knob (random velocity when INT is selected). MOD - LFO DUO, MOD - VCA squad and MOD - ADSR get Mod B input from PRO - RNG as well.

FLD playable synth

Synthesizer with a fold oscillator, a FM and AM operator that is played from the MIDI host. This patch looks like the FM AM Fold patch from version 1.

Modulation:
Mod A: MOD - LFO DUO.
Mod B: MOD - ADSR

AM 1 in: OSC - FM OP
AM 2 in: OSC - FLD Sine

PLS SAW DUO playable synth

Stereo synthesizer with a unison detunable pulse / saw oscillator and a stereo LFO that modulates the independent filters for the left and right channel. Played from the MIDI host.

Modulation:
MOD - LFO ST left LFO provides Mod A to FLT - TSK DUO. Filter 1 of FLT - TSK DUO goes to the left output. MOD - LFO ST right LFO provides Mod B to FLT - TSK DUO. Filter 2 of FLT - TSK DUO goes to the right output.

Mod A: MOD - LFO MW
MOD B: MOD - ADSR. MOD - ADSR, MOD - LFO ST and AMP - VCA SAT get Mod B input from MOD - LFO MW (LFMO output).

Noisy rhythms

A generative noise (2 noise generators) percussion patch with 4 channels that are triggered with 2x8 gate inputs.

VCA 1: NZ 1 and 2, triggered by OUT A from CV SEL 1 and 2 (MOD - AD Squad, AD 1)
VCA 2: NZ 1 and 2, triggered by OUT B from CV SEL 1 and 2 (MOD - AD Squad, AD 2)
VCA 3: NZ 3 and 4, triggered by OUT A from CV SEL 3 and 4 (MOD - AD Squad, AD 3)
VCA 4: NZ 3 and 4, triggered by OUT B from CV SEL 3 and 4 (MOD - AD Squad, AD 4)

MOD - LFO RNG gets gate input from INT - MIDI M8 (Clock gate)

CV SEL 1 and 2 OUT A & OUT B: G1-G8 gate outputs from MOD - LFO RNG

MOD B: MOD - LFO RNG. Turing machine random output except CV SEL 1 and 2, CV SEL 3 and 4 and MOD - LFO Sync (Turing machine sequencer position output). MOD - LFO RNG gets Mod B input from INT MIDI M8, MIDI Gate.

Turing P&G melody improv

A generative patch that creates 8 pitch and 8 gate streams by SEQ - Turing P&G (a Turing machine with integrated pitch quantizer). The pitch and gate stream can be independently selected from each other before they are sent to OSC - PLS SAW DUO (Mono). SEQ - Turing P&G gets a gate from INT - CLK Sync. The integrated pitch Quantizer (PQ)receives next to the Turing machine output the output from MOD - LFO Sync (In A: LFO 1, In B: LFO 2). They can be crossfaded with the X knob when the PQ is selected. MIX - CV SEL selects the pitch and gate stream. PRO - S&H is there to chop the selected pitch stream in line with the selected gate stream before they are sent to the oscillator and envelope.

MIX - CV SEL:
OUT A: SEQ - Turing P&G Gates G1-G8
OUT B: SEQ - Turing P&G Pitch P1-P8

Modulation:
Mod A: MOD - LFO Sync. The LFO gets Mod A (Turing random output) and B (Turing sequencer position) from SEQ - Turing P&G
Mod B: MOD - AHD. MIX CV SEL and AMP - VCA SAT get the Turing random number as Mod B input.

Arpegg 18R

A 4 voice generative patch containing a 8 step sequencer, a Turing machine and 8 gate in / 8 gate out selector. The SEQ - 8 STP and MOD - LFO RNG are triggered with a gate selected with MIX - CV SEL (OUT A). The gate for the SEQ - PQ and MOD - AD Squad are selected with MIX - CV SEL (OUT B).

OUT A: Gate in for SEQ - 8 STP and MOD - LFO RNG
OUT B: Gate in for SEQ - PQ and MOD - AD Squad.

Philippe, Thank you for the positive feedback. The rather strange thing that happens with the buttons under the Gain knob of AMP - VCA SAT happens with the same buttons for AMP - VCA Clean as well. I had the issue once when I built these two blocks and now I tried to replicate the issue after your post, the issue does not come up. I think the cause of this has to be found in the excessive use of real estate by the amount of functions on these blocks. The two selection buttons had to be placed closely under the Gain knob to offer room to all functionalities within the standard block size. The label of the gain knob could therefore be interfering with the buttons upon startup somehow. However, I am not sure.

Congrats again, Niels ! Strange little thing also in the VCA SAT. After loading it, the 2 buttons (Int/Ext and Lin /Exp) do not react normally. I have to click 3 or 4 times before they react. Once it reacts, problem never returns. It's something a little random, not always, but very often. Not a big deal though :-)

Catman, Thanks for pointing out this issue and description of the deduction of the issue caused by the INT - P&G Block. I have done the same thing with P&G and an ADSR and indeed some MIDI notes were not coming through as they were supposed to do. In particular when another note was right after it, the note was skipped. I'll have a closer look at the gate signals INT - P&G gives in comparison with the factory's Note In block. P&G was designed to be a light version of Note In for non-keyboard MIDI controllers who do not have designated pitch bend wheel. The temporary workaround for the 3 OSC and 1 VCA patch here is to substitute INT - P&G with the Factory's Util - Note In.

Thank you, Niels for sharing all your hard work with Reaktor users! I have used some of your blocks with great results. You may want to know that I encountered an issue with your INT - P&G. I used it to provide Gate signals into the factory West Coast LPG's Pluck input, and found many of the notes from my MIDI track weren't registering in the LPG. So I patched in the factory Util NoteIn block and this restored the MIDI track's notes. Should their gates be comparable?
