DESCRIPTION

The PB Dowager is a monophonic, two oscillator, virtual analog synth.

At its heart is ZooTooK's "Juice 3" sound engine, heavily modified to accommodate a Prodigy style feature set and sound.

It being a two oscillator synth, still offers plenty of versatility. I tried to reflect this in the included snapshots.

Layout, design and animation: My aim was to make the features and functionality of the control panel as intuitive as possible. The panel lay-out is loosely inspired by the Moog Prodigy, but gradually a variety of influences and ideas made it into what it is now.

I don't think i need here explain every knob and button on the panel. I will add a short description of each control in their Info window. Just jump right in and hear for yourself!

Panel View B, or the "back panel" has a modest selection of additional controls. Controls that i didn't need to access readily,or don't use very often, and that i didn't want to interfere with Panel View A. In Panel View B you can switch off the end stage distortion. I did not go as far as to add a "Distortion Amount" control. Not yet anyway. I just wanted a way to turn off the distortion completely. That doesn't mean the Dowager sounds squeaky clean when this switch is turned off. But it definitely allows for a softer, cleaner sound. Switching off the Distortion also allows you to use your own distortion or overdrive with the Dowager (I often use my own "Black Widow" overdrive).

Noise controls are also on the back panel. Here you can switch noise on/off, select between white or pink noise, and control the noise level.

The Dowager is a project i did for myself, but decided i might as well share it with other Reaktor users.

Enjoy!

If you would like to contact me, the easiest way is to leave a message in the Dowager build thread here: https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/dowager-mod-project.423401/page-3#post-1995359 That way i get an email notice when a reply has been made to the thread.

CREDIT: Many thanks to the great ZooTook for putting such a great and intricate sound engine online. You can check out his amazing "Juice 3" ensemble here: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/reaktor-community/reaktor-user-library/entry/show/7777/

Thanks also to Reaktor users drb, Paule, Big Gnome and ColB for their help.

18/10 Overhauled all snapshots to show in both the Ensemble snapshot browser, as well as in the Instrument snapshot browser. And of course in the main browser window. Now i can say, the Dowager is 100% finished. Have fun y'all!

Hi D B. That's a remnant from the original build i used for this project. It doesn't really bother me. I might try to make it true monophonic when I find some time.

hey this is awesome but why does the key not play when you hold one key and press one up but it works when you hold one and go down

Fixed: You can now browse Snapshots in both the Ensemble snap browser and the Instrument snap Browser. The Ensemble and Instrument snapshots are identical, but i wanted everything to work 100%.

Hi Tomas. Good question, because i don't know why that is. I'll see what i can do.

Incredible freebee, thank you for this! However, is there a way to browse presets in the main preset window? I have to open the small window within the synth everytime to browse through presets. It would be easier to just click the up/down arrows like you usually do in reaktor.

Hi Gianclaudio! The updated version, released in about a week or so, will have decidedly less overall distortion. There is no specific filter distortion built into the synth. It's all coming from the output stage. I'm going to keep it that way, but dialled back slightly.

It can sound pretty dark and dusty, i would have preferred not to have the noise on the filter while playing. The filter sounds pretty good. Looking forward for further developments! Thank you for your work : )

True. Let me see what i can do somewhere next weekend. First, though, i need to fix the Mod wave selector knob.

You can make that change without messing up snapshots if you add a button to enable slow mode.

Hi Zalevskyi86! I can and i would. But as far as i can tell it's working just fine as it is, and changes to the control rate would mess up my already made snapshots. :)

This synth is superb! The one thing I ask is, can you make lfo to function on low rates instead of audio rates?
