It combines a rich variety of inventive playing techniques with a groundbreaking processing engine that intertwines dynamics, tonal shifts, and motion to push the sound of a piano into unimaginable spaces. Whether it’s dramatic noir soundtracks, forward-thinking electronica, or straight-up pop productions, PIANO COLORS gives life to new and unexpected musical ideas.

From dancefloors to concert halls, the color palette of PIANO COLORS lets you paint your own musical picture.
Modulations are simultaneously controlled in real-time using the central Expression knob, which can also react to velocity or be automated with a LFO.
The innovative Particles engine sparks new musical ideas by generating new notes and adding an extra layer to your playing.
The arpeggiator’s variety of playing modes and randomization features let you create ever-changing sequences and aleatoric patterns.
The Tone page includes Color, Tonal Shift, and Dynamic controls, as well as modulatable envelope parameters.
The Mod FX page contains four freely assignable effects slots for each layer, including Filter, EQ, and Timbre controls.
The Motion engine features two modulation sources for each layer, which can be used to control a variety of parameters with LFOs or step-sequencer patterns.
The source sounds in PIANO COLORS were captured using an array of special instrument preparations and extended playing techniques.

VISIONARY SOUNDS, ORGANICALLY MODULATED

The essence of PIANO COLORS lies in the synergy it creates between its deep pool of unique grand piano articulations, and the innovative modulation engines that include Motion, the Arpeggiator, and the newly extended Particles. Complex sounds transform in real-time to create expressive timbres, naturally pulsing grooves, and continuously evolving pads. PIANO COLORS lets harmonically rich samples become inspirational hues that can be moulded and blended to make music that moves and breathes as you play.

BRUSHED, PLUCKED, STRUMMED, AND BOWED

To record the extensive collection of source samples in PIANO COLORS, a variety of unorthodox tools and materials were used including mallets, drumsticks, rubber, screws, and multiple EBows. The strings and body of a grand piano were prepared and played in highly unusual ways, and the sonic results were meticulously captured using the most sought-after recording equipment to yield a breathtaking array of lively resonances, articulate harmonics and colorful overtones.

24 HOURS WITH PIANO COLORS

Four artists, four contrasting styles, one iconic venue, one inspiring instrument. We put Jared Hines, Kaan Bulak, Lisa Morgenstern, and Yaffra together in Berlin’s historic Theater im Delphi, to demonstrate how PIANO COLORS can be used as a creative tool across multiple genres. Without further guidance, the quartet produced a stunning performance that mixes jazz chords, classical orchestration, electroacoustic textures, and dancefloor energy to showcase the instrument’s rich versatility and creative power.
