DESCRIPTION

This entry is the central place where you can find patches made with KNBSTRB8 Blocks.

Version 1.5

New : Melody Immediacy

Melody Immediacy

This patch can handle multiple inputs for the pitch quantizer (SEQ - PQ) and the host gate (INT - P&G) or the transport synced clock (INT - CLK Sync) can be used as a gate signal.

MIX - CV SEL selects the gate signal.
1A: Gate from INT - P&G is used.
2A: Gate from INT - CLK Sync is used.

INT - CLK Sync generates a Reset gate for the sequencer, the pitch quantizer, the RNG and the LFO, whether or not it is selected as a gate source. The Reset gate can be turned on (default: OFF) at the INT - CLK Sync block.

There are four pitch inputs which can be mixed with the X and Y knobs of SEQ - PQ:
A: SEQ - 8 STP provides the pitch input.
B: PRO - RNG provides the pitch input.
C: MOD - LFO DUO provides the pitch input.
D: INT - P&G provides the pitch input. Use this input (X = 100, Y = 0) to use this patch as a playable synth (and select 1A on the MIX - CV SEL block).

There are four separate voices with their own envelope and VCA.

1: OSC 1 (OSC - 4 WAV), MOD - AD Squad (AD 1), MOD - VCA Squad (VCA 1)
2: OSC 2 (OSC - PLS SAW DUO), MOD - AD Squad (AD 2), MOD - VCA Squad (VCA 2). Use the FINE knob to unison detune the two PLS / SAW oscillators.
3: OSC 3 (OSC - 4 WAV Sub direct out), MOD - AD Squad (AD 3), MOD - VCA Squad (VCA 3). This is the direct output of the Sub oscillator of OSC 1 (same block used for OSC 1 and 3). The SUB knob is set to zero to avoid doubling up the Sub output via OSC 1 (using Mix output of the block). Mixing of the Sub oscillator can be done via the VCA.
4: OSC 4 (OSC - Noise XY), MOD - AD Squad (AD 4), MOD - VCA Squad (VCA 4). Provides FM to OSC - FM OP.

OSC - FM OP provides FM to OSC 1&3, OSC 2 and FLT - TSK 2 NL.

MOD - LFO DUO is the Mod A input for all blocks except the LFO itself which gets the SEQ - 8 STP as Mod A input. The four envelopes from MOD - AD Squad are routed to MIX - CV SEL and one of them can be selected (buttons: 1B, 2B, 3B, 4B) as Mod B input for OSC 1 - 4 and the Filter. The other blocks have PRO - RNG as Mod B input.

Smack my pitch up

This is a generating patch with two 4-wave oscillators and one FM OP. The incoming gate is connected to the SEQ - RNG Gate that splits the random gate set by knob 1 to the random gate for OSC 1 and the Not gate for OSC 2. Only the Gate 1 output and the Not Gate output of SEQ - RNG Gate are connected in this patch. The Gate 2 knob and the Boolean test in between 1 & 2 are not in use. The default setting is 100% probability on gate 1 (the Gate 1 knob is full CW). Turning the knob CCW increases the probability that OSC 2 will be heard. Both gates have their own AHD that envelope their own oscillator to the VCA Squad. Only VCA 1 and 2 are used in this patch. The VCA mix output leads to a filter and a stereo feedback delay.

The SEQ - PQ has 4 inputs to set the pitch of the patch (mixed with the XY knobs):
A: MOD - LFO MW (Reset by INT - CLK)
B: MOD - LFO RNG (Reset by INT - CLK)
C: INT - CLK Sync + Reset Gate Ramp
D: SEQ - RNG Gate UNI RNG output.

Mod A:
MOD - LFO Sync

Mod B:
SEQ - RNG Gate BI RNG output
Exception: OSC 1 and OSC 2 get the envelope from AHD 1 (for OSC 1) and AHD 2 (for OSC 2).

The Velocity input for AHD 1 and AHD 2 is the RNG UNI output of SEQ - RNG Gate. Velocity sensitivity has to be turned on to have effect.

FM AM Fold

A synthesizer with a fold oscillator that has AM and FM modules added to it. The ADSR is triggered by the MIDI controller and the LFO's reset at Gate on. The filter is a 24dB / Oct LP filter with a brassy sounding resonance. The filter starts to self oscillate at maximum resonance.

Mod A:
Mod A is for the 2 LFO's that can be mixed with a XF.

Mod B:
Mod B is for the envelope and / or a RNG that can be mixed with a XF. The RNG is an unipolar Mod B input for P&G to enable random velocity. The RNB is a bipolar Mod B on both XF.

Count to 4 and press play

This is a generative patch with 2 clocks that are synced to the host tempo and transport. The pitch comes from the MIDI controller and does not give a gate on. This patch is built to create poly rhythms with 2 (4 wave + sub) oscillators and 2 TSK filters. Both oscillators have their own FM operator. The FM operators give each other FM input as well.

For additional modulation, each channel has its own LFO, AHD and RNG.

Mod A:
Mod A is in general the LFO input for that channel.

Mod B:
Mod B is in general the input for the AHD of that channel.

Exceptions:
AHD (Mod A is the channel's LFO, Mod B is the other channel's LFO).
LFO (Mod A is the channel's gate ramp and Mod B is the channel's reset gate ramp).
P&G - Gate ramps of 1 and 2.
RNG - LFO 1 and LFO 2.
XF - LFO 1 and LFO 2.

MK SUM NZ Stereo

2 Channel Stereo Noise generator with 8 modulators. The host transport should run as CLK Sync and LFO Sync are tempo and transport synced.

Routing CV Mixer:

1A: LFO Sync
2A: LFO MW
3A: LFO RNG
4A: CLK Sync (Negative reset gate ramp)

Output to Mod A

1B: AHD Noise
2B: AHD TS Dust
3B: CLK Sync (Positive gate ramp)
4B: CLK Sync (Positive reset gate ramp)

Output to Mod B

Exceptions:

AHD Noise and AHD Dust receive velocity information from LFO RNG
CV MIX receives LFO Sync under A and LFO MW under B.
Dust S receives "Pitch" information from LFO RNG.

Version 1.1

Updated: 3 OSC and 1 VCA.

The issue with the INT - P&G as discussed in the comments has been resolved. Replaced Pitch and Gate MIDI in macros with the MIDI macros found in the factory's Util Note In to resolve an issue that not all outgoing gates were picked up by other blocks like MOD - ADSR or the factory's West Coast LPG. In addition, a MIDI channel selector is added to the Block.

3 OSC and 1 VCA
A basic synthesizer patch.

Receives Pitch and Gate (INT - P&G) input from the host. The MOD - AHD envelope enables envelopes that are independent on the gate length given by the host. For an envelope that is dependent of the gate length, select AD or replace the MOD - AHD with an ADSR (for instance MOD - ADSR).

The 2 LFO's (MOD - LFO Syc and MOD - LFO MW) can be mixed with the MIX - XF S and the LFO amount to the A/B modulation inputs can be controlled with MOD - KNB M. LFO Sync does not run unless the transport of the host is running. I.e. The host has to be playing. LFO Sync gives a reset gate to LFO MW.

FM OP 1 is routed in FM OP 2. FM OP 1 receives FM from FM OP 2. FM OP 2 provides FM to OSC - 4 WAV XY. As such, OSC - 4 WAV XY is the only oscillator routed into the output. The output of FM OP 2 provides FM to FLT TSK 2 NL.

The filter's resonance can be pushed into self oscillation when the 2x button is on. Even at 1x, high resonance can cause additional gain peaks. Please, note that AMP - VCA clips the outgoing signal at 0 dB [1,-1]. The metering is pre-clipping.

In general, the A modulation port is for the LFO mix and the B modulation port is for the AHD. Exceptions are the AHD (A = LFO Sync, B = LFO MW), XF and KNB (LFO instead of AHD).

Philippe, Thank you for the positive feedback. The rather strange thing that happens with the buttons under the Gain knob of AMP - VCA SAT happens with the same buttons for AMP - VCA Clean as well. I had the issue once when I built these two blocks and now I tried to replicate the issue after your post, the issue does not come up. I think the cause of this has to be found in the excessive use of real estate by the amount of functions on these blocks. The two selection buttons had to be placed closely under the Gain knob to offer room to all functionalities within the standard block size. The label of the gain knob could therefore be interfering with the buttons upon startup somehow. However, I am not sure.

Congrats again, Niels ! Strange little thing also in the VCA SAT. After loading it, the 2 buttons (Int/Ext and Lin /Exp) do not react normally. I have to click 3 or 4 times before they react. Once it reacts, problem never returns. It's something a little random, not always, but very often. Not a big deal though :-)

Catman, Thanks for pointing out this issue and description of the deduction of the issue caused by the INT - P&G Block. I have done the same thing with P&G and an ADSR and indeed some MIDI notes were not coming through as they were supposed to do. In particular when another note was right after it, the note was skipped. I'll have a closer look at the gate signals INT - P&G gives in comparison with the factory's Note In block. P&G was designed to be a light version of Note In for non-keyboard MIDI controllers who do not have designated pitch bend wheel. The temporary workaround for the 3 OSC and 1 VCA patch here is to substitute INT - P&G with the Factory's Util - Note In.

Thank you, Niels for sharing all your hard work with Reaktor users! I have used some of your blocks with great results. You may want to know that I encountered an issue with your INT - P&G. I used it to provide Gate signals into the factory West Coast LPG's Pluck input, and found many of the notes from my MIDI track weren't registering in the LPG. So I patched in the factory Util NoteIn block and this restored the MIDI track's notes. Should their gates be comparable?
