DESCRIPTION

while this probably wasnt totally ready for update, it probably never will be. given that, a lot things have been upgraded. the duophony is now rock solid, or it would have been had i taken the time to check the correct note priority instead of following my head (tried to fix it and lord, it's like quicksand) but it will not glitch out, and you can even have a few extra keys pressed down and let up without the gate shutting off. the modulation is almost totally different, hopefully with more of a mind for what's idiosyncratically useful as opposed to what's just possible. on osc 1 & 2 you can fade between normal fm and ring modding both fm channels (so if fm seems broken, its just the fader needs turned to addition. there was some weird life experiences the lfo went through, and now if the small single button is hit the lfo is lazily slaved to integer ratios of a second lfo, which is itself based on some ratio of the frequency divider that follows the main oscillators and causes a lot of mayhem up and down the control system (sort of like a bridging the concepts of harmony and syncopation, which are the very similar but at different time scales, the gate can be triggered with this producing beautifully unstable and complex polyrhythms

my favorite though is the addition of filter feedback, which has threatened the entire workflow of the system as far as jeopardizing most snapshots (so i disabled feedback for snaps) and people very justifiably saying 'what is wrong with this synth, what is wrong with this man?'

its true, the use of the filter feedback can sound like all the stuff the punisher knocks over chasing you through the alley because you ran him amok and stole his girlfriends 70 dollars (good) or more like the screeching/wailing of your downstairs neighbor the cat lady who brooms your floor for watching frazier at a reasonable volume (bad). anyway, maybe its not as cool as monarks, but its probably not 10x lamer, but just proceed with caution (lol jk)

oh yeah, most of these new things are represented by big ugly red and gold knobs, this is to draw attention cheaply and also as sort of self motivation to make sure i update this again soon

anyway, i worked on this for a good long time for all of you, so if you had some opinions on what those next updates could be, i would be proper stoked to hear it, i don't even care if its negative

oh yeah, added a bit of drift as an afterthought. super low filtered pink noise. if anyone could report if that is great or sucks, i have to go to work now so cant really play with it

fixed a few problems, including the oscillators drifting apart in pitch, and the duophony works much better (though still not perfect, the voices still get crossed sometimes, midi in reaktor is baffling when it comes to solid voice handling), and also no longer retriggers when a new note is pressed. still needs work but i'd say it seems to do that duophonic ring modulated arp growl thing pretty good!

a synth with the gall to take the only name that would suggest it is older than a well worn classic, and by extension could beat it up. tried to keep the interface from being too much more cluttered than the original, but beneath the relative simplicity the modulation possibilities have been greatly expanded, hover over unmarked and even marked parameters for educational tooltips which should explain everything. this was not necessarily modeled to be accurate, i was chasing my internal idealized model. the state of the snapshots is iffy, as a lot of them were made before some structural changes, but conversely maybe some of them could be even better. time will tell...

***

version 1.1

added init snapshot, improved knob visibility, corrected internal connection errors, added switch to bypass keyboard control for helper oscillator.

***

version 1.11 on the rebound from some extremely buggy behavior after adding that switch. things got unplugged mysteriously, i almost beat up my computer, that kind thing. also fixed the ring modulator.

next up is getting those snapshots under control...

thanks everyone for positive/helpful feedback

man this thing sucks. sorry everyone lol. i might try to turn this back into what i'd intended in the first place, a decent shot at an odyssey

you get an A+ for effort and the way you described (including the 9 previous comments) this instrument is the most accurate analogy to describe my life

it is directly above the very far left 'mod' fader, and depending on your monitor settings may be next to impossible to see. you bring up good points, let me see what i can do.

I quote: "the waveform for what am dubbing the 'helper oscillator'. its main intended purpose is increased modulation complexity, but it can also be used in the traditional fashion. its volume mixer is the circular knob directly above the faders" What knob? It would be good if there was an Init Snapshot.

try left or right clicking somewhere in the s/h mixer box. what you are probably talking about is the frequency divider. doing this will set a higher divider and make it sound less like a glitch and more like a lfo

i am using fm, and some slightly experimental modulators/ways of triggering the sample/hold, yeah it can sound kind of gnarly, but this was built off another ensemble that was using control rate for modulation, i'm pretty sure i nipped that in the all in the bud. correct me if i'm wrong. the internal structure is messy in places because i wasnt thinking about impressing anyone with how pretty my internal structuer

??? don't you hear, that the modulation is crackling (no audio modulation, modulation with control rate?). In structure there are many fakes (dead ends and misdirections), why?

It's good, thanks.

it was a multi picture hiding the knobs, fixed now. the sound is fine, it can be made to sound ugly, which is a problem plaguing the earlier snapshots.

sorry, but buggy sound and terrible structure design; what do you want to hide?
