is it possible to import MIDI files?

i know I am probably going to get burned for asking this but do not think I have ever seen it anywhere.... apologies in advance if this has been brought up previously.

I would love to see midi import, this would allow me to import many of my old MPC beats into Maschine.

the only way I have found to get midi files into maschine is to:

Open Maschine as Vst in Host
Put midi file in track of Maschine or route midi track to Maschine
Change Maschine to Sounds to Midi Notes
    Change root to C1
    Start with a empty pattern
    Play host/Record Arm Maschine
Maschine picks ups midi from Host and records it to pattern
Turn off grid in Maschine to capture groove or otherwise it will quantize to grid

Has anyone done this in Reaper? I'm trying but Maschine isn't picking up the midi notes. Do I need to do a special route from Reaper?

Good Drop WIDOWMAKER. I always thought MIDI cannot be handled with Maschine since the browser doesn't recognized MIDI files. But this is a good work-around stilll.

awol9000, I just tried this in Reaper with the VST version and it worked.

Launch Reaper and Insert Maschine VST.
Use Reaper's browser to locate your midi file > Drag it to the track that Maschine VST has created (You'll get a prompt asking if you want to extract the MIDI file to seperate tracks, I selected 'No' in this stance).
Ensure the length of the MIDI Clip matches Maschines Pattern Length.
Press REC on Maschine and press Play on the Reaper Transport.
It records the MIDI Clip into Maschine with the Velocities and everything and stop at the end of the midi clip. You can disarm REC from Maschine at this point.

    See attached Screenshots.

    That's a great workaround!

But the next update really needs to have proper midi import / drag and drop.

(the way I had imagined but had never tried was to import a loop and slice it to transients, but that's way too fiddly... didn't think the cheaty record in was possible!)

    Thanks! Got it solved.

I had to enable Maschine controller out and midi import settings in Reaper to : As a multichannel items on a single track.

It won't record any midi until there is a sample selected.

Then I changed (on Maschine) the midi channel to 10.

Now it works but only works on channel 10.

@ Beatworkx: send me a pm if you want some sample packs.

Nice. Good to hear it all worked out. I tend to have the tendency to post from the standpoint that things are already setup. my bad

I'll hit you up on the sounds tip though to see what's up. Thanks

On some of my midi patterns, not all, they need to be recorded on multiple base keys; C1, C3, C0

I didn't notice this until listening to the incomplete patterns. Does anyone know if I have to record multiple times or is there a work around?:|

I recorded over 300 drum patterns yesterday & it looks like I need to go back and rerecord them. A midi import feature is sure looking good at this moment.
