Toxonic Live
Loop-based Live Machine
DESCRIPTION
when i read a tutorial about a loopbased live-set construction by martin brinkmann some while ago, i decided to build my own one with some advanced and enhanced features. now, it works, but it's still pretty raw and still needs some detail workouts.
i suppose this ensemble to be controlled by a midi-controller, to squeeze the whole power out of it... i used the behringer bcr2000 - i tried to upload the bcr-preset too, but my bcr-edit software doesn't work, and i don't know another way to dump the preset from my bcr... sorry!
the ensemble consists of:
- looper (8 loopsamplers)
every loop sampler out is directed to it's own mixer channel. it features a tempo quantisation and tempo detection (beta, but works fine for me...). also, every looper has a special shuffle-fx, sounds nice on drums and rhythmic sounds.
- mixer (8 channel)
the mixer features pan- and volume-faders for each channel, but also a hp2/lp2-filter, mute button and a variable output routing to three outputs per channel: "glitch", "norm" (dry sound) and "fx"
- glitch:
some realtime fx (that's why the whole instrument is snap isolate)like stutter, stretcher, reverser,....
- fx:
a combi of two standard macros....phaser/flanger and microspace reverb
- snap:
THIS ONE IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!
with this one u can change the snapshots of all the instruments in the ensemble (except glitch)..... tempo quantized!!!
so, if snap 1 is running and u switch to snap 2, the change first happens, when a "relevant" point in time is reached!
- scratcher:
just a stupid scratch fx...
i guess it's not so hard to check the flow in the ensemble, although it's not soooo easy to combine ease-of-use, intuitivity and possibilities in one big live ensemble.
hope you have fun!!!!
NOTE: there are only 2 snaps and some few samples for 2 logical reasons:
1. much samples - big file - long download
2. this is a live tool, so please create your own live set!!! ;)
btw: the samples in this ensemble are from my track "aurum", released on a compilation at "weird and wired" (netlabel)
