mashr
beat mash studio
DESCRIPTION
EDIT-NOTE: this version SHOULD contain all the samples, i made sure to save them with the module, the uncompressed file is about 14 megs. i also latched the denominators on a few suspicious core divide modules that were most likely causing the NaN's for Mac users. Please, anyone who is on a Mac leave comments to tell me if all is working now (it is a CPU pig regardless, with high RAM use, if too high remove some drum samples, hit ctrl+2 to see drum sampler).
---------------------------------------
mashr is a stand-alone beat-mashing studio, in the same vein as Tim Exile's Keymasher. this ensemble of mine is a result of me trying to emulate something similar to Tim's, only with my own structures. the other credit has to go to chris list and rachmeil, since they got the ball rolling on their own version of Keymasher in the Reaktor Forum. i made this myself out of a desire to make my own customized version and because i get frustrated using other large, deep ensembles since id rather just use what i need.
the ensemble works as follows. first, in all 3 views is the control center, top. this is where you control the Play-FX and crossfader. underneath is the masher sampling instrument. there are 4 channels. each channel has both a "normal" pre-loaded sampler and a "live" sampler, which records live input in perfectly beat-synced loops. both use a custom granular synthesis engine.
if you hit ctrl+2, you will open up the drum machine view. this is very similar to Go-Box, only with 2 voices and less controls. it is sample based, and samples must be dragged into the waveform display/sample mapper. samples should be mapped from left (0) to the right as far down as the amount of samples. afterwards, set the "map+" knob to the amount of samples in the map. also, make sure the transpose amount for each sample = 0. the exciting thing abou the drum-machine is that it uses the same key-controlled play-FX as the beat sampler. the FX on/output on controls/display is seen on the masher instrument.
finally, if you press ctrl + 3 you will open the MIDI learn mode, where all 3 instruments are visible, but set up so that the controls are easily MIDI-learned (the other views use alot of mouse-areas that cant be MIDI learned). to bring back the original Mashr instrument, hit ctrl + 1.
i hope people find this as useful and fun as i do. it may not be as technically advanced as Chris List's version, or Exile's for that matter, but it is very usable and fun, and has the rather excellent drum machine that i personally am in love with (along with the original GoBox).
please report and comments, questions or bugs either here or to my e-mail address (below). have fun and have a great new years!
