Reaktor 5 or lower
Instrument Sampler

DESCRIPTION

EDIT-NOTE: this version SHOULD contain all the samples, i made sure to save them with the module, the uncompressed file is about 14 megs. i also latched the denominators on a few suspicious core divide modules that were most likely causing the NaN's for Mac users. Please, anyone who is on a Mac leave comments to tell me if all is working now (it is a CPU pig regardless, with high RAM use, if too high remove some drum samples, hit ctrl+2 to see drum sampler).
---------------------------------------
mashr is a stand-alone beat-mashing studio, in the same vein as Tim Exile's Keymasher. this ensemble of mine is a result of me trying to emulate something similar to Tim's, only with my own structures. the other credit has to go to chris list and rachmeil, since they got the ball rolling on their own version of Keymasher in the Reaktor Forum. i made this myself out of a desire to make my own customized version and because i get frustrated using other large, deep ensembles since id rather just use what i need.

the ensemble works as follows. first, in all 3 views is the control center, top. this is where you control the Play-FX and crossfader. underneath is the masher sampling instrument. there are 4 channels. each channel has both a "normal" pre-loaded sampler and a "live" sampler, which records live input in perfectly beat-synced loops. both use a custom granular synthesis engine.

if you hit ctrl+2, you will open up the drum machine view. this is very similar to Go-Box, only with 2 voices and less controls. it is sample based, and samples must be dragged into the waveform display/sample mapper. samples should be mapped from left (0) to the right as far down as the amount of samples. afterwards, set the "map+" knob to the amount of samples in the map. also, make sure the transpose amount for each sample = 0. the exciting thing abou the drum-machine is that it uses the same key-controlled play-FX as the beat sampler. the FX on/output on controls/display is seen on the masher instrument.

finally, if you press ctrl + 3 you will open the MIDI learn mode, where all 3 instruments are visible, but set up so that the controls are easily MIDI-learned (the other views use alot of mouse-areas that cant be MIDI learned). to bring back the original Mashr instrument, hit ctrl + 1.

i hope people find this as useful and fun as i do. it may not be as technically advanced as Chris List's version, or Exile's for that matter, but it is very usable and fun, and has the rather excellent drum machine that i personally am in love with (along with the original GoBox).

please report and comments, questions or bugs either here or to my e-mail address (below). have fun and have a great new years!

update - i added the drum machine samples. these are more important than the loops, which are mostly crap. hope this helps!

Love this mate, great work. Only problem is there are sometimes glitches at the end of a the loop as it returns to the beginning but I suppose that is due to the CPU on my comp and RAM being hogged. Found the best way to use it is stand alone, I make my beats using Logic, record a loop, put it in this beast and then mash away for 10 mins, then back into logic to edit the resulting audio. A great tool for making beat driven techno.

Hmm... what's the status of this? Daniel, I'm on a Mac G5, and while CPU usage is moderate (27%), I have the output meter maxed but no sound. Do I miss something here?

steffen - the fx are just ramps that control the audiobuffer. the closest way to make them work on incoming audio is something like my playdelay, which is similar in design to this. that is because it needs a buffer to work on, all the effects are just differant ramps.

i had only time for a short test, but it makes vicious sounds, i guess i'll have much fun with it! i didn't experience any problems, runs nice - but i run a pc, maybe a mac-specific prob... i will vote later, when i "really" tested it!

Intel seems very slow on reaktor - my amd mobile with 1.8 (reel or 2.4 quantispeeded)ghz needs "only" 27%. but althoug i can´t understand this needed power, comparing to your play delay or to clists work of this. but my mainqeustion is: is it possible to make your core as an "real" fx, in the tradional way, behind the soundengine or is it only runs with lookups?

Got the message that 4 samples were AWOL, so I'll need to use my own. Ah well. But wow, is this thing CPU hungry - 60% on my PC P4 2.4GHz with 512 MB RAM. Looking forward to the fixes...

i wonder if it will run on the new Intel Macs. ;-) please fix it daniel, pretty please

yo....on my mac, when i load mashr, the audio output bars on the toolbar are overloaded, even if nothing is going on - but no sound pops out either way. Boo! This thing looks like a hell oof a lot of fun too. Hrrmmmm....ill try the units individually to see if maybe there isn't a simple bug with the way that it is wired out. Also, what kind of soundcard are you using? You have 4 channels wired for output, but i am using the coreaudio stereo (2 outputs)...just curious on that one. I disconnected the extra bits but it still has the same problem.

I'm on a Mac and downloaded the updated file and it still doesn't work. Audio meters are showing that they are peaked out, but no sound comes out. Also, the drum loops were not found.

hey daniel it looks pretty interesting, but as i'm on a mac i have the same problems as the others. i'm not sure if it's a bad divide problem. thing is, that the NaNs occure with the filter macro, but i couldn't figure out why. maybe this helps you a lttle.

ARRGHH! i think i may remove this upload until i can fix it. it works fine on my PC, and a few others i hear, but not macs, im almost positive its due to a bad divide operation in the corecell that drives the thing. ill see tomarrow, if anyone on a mac is interested in checking out a fix before i post it, please contact me at kid_sputnikyahoocom

oh ya, and also no samples came with it, but I did put my own in, and still no sound. Audio meter is maxed though.

I like really the layout of this, but unfortunately like others, I get no sound on my powerbook from it. There is an audible click every time I open or close it though. Also, Ctrl+1/2/3 doesn't open the various editors, and I can't find a way to do it on the gui. I too love the gobox, and am looking forward to seeing something like it here combined with the keymasher. cheers.

Yeah, same here, still redlined output. And on a mac. Do any PC people have any issues?

audio out still hits the red immediately upon loading the ens on my mac. wish I could help figure out the discrepancy, but I'm new to Reaktor and wouldn't know where to begin to look.

ahh, i guess there is a bad divide going on that is initializing on macs differantly than on my 'puter. ill go try and fix this. i thought i saved the samples again correctly, bummer that its not working right, cuz i spent so much time on this and i really wanted to move on to my new project, but i guess this must be done first!

"I am still not getting this to work properly! WHen I load the ensemble, my output level redlines, and nothing is played. if i load loops into all four channels, still nothing works. Am I the only 1 getting this?" i am also getting this...plus a huge audio click. Jesse, are you on a Mac? daniel, i looked under the hood, and i can see the dreaded Nan Nan when i hover my cursor over the wires and outputs. i traced it back to the huge Core macro in each of the 4 channels. some of the outputs are sending out the Nan signal...that means they are not working. also the loops are still missing, please check "store sound with module"

this module is fantastic...i've just spent the last two hours loading in sample maps and playing with it...the design is very intuitive and well layed out. thank you dan steve

also, on my machine, the output level jumps up to full, and I cannot get any sound out of it. The missing soundfiles are for the drummachine, so, even with my own samples in the loopers, I get nothing. On a Mac by the way.

49 sounds? wow. i though i saved the samples with ens just drag some from the browser into the waveform display, its meant for your own samples. also, i was intending on making a short manual, but i kinda want to do something else and had to post this and get it out of my system.
Tasho Nicolopulos

This looks interesting, however I can hear no sound....When I load the ens, it says 49 sounds are missing, but there seem to be wavs in the loop player. I'm using a Mac in OSX, Reaktor 5.1, and a 2 output sound card.
