Hyroglyphicus Updated to Version 1.3.1 on Saturday October 10th 2015

Go to my youtube channel to see the new features in version 1.3.1

https://www.youtube.com/user/MichaelOHaganMusic

!!!!Warning!!!! - Do not throw out Hyroglyphicus V1.2.4 - !!!!Warning!!!!

I removed several hundred snapshots from V1.3.1 because I was running out of snapshot banks and I needed to make room for more snapshots.

If you have used any snapshots from V1.2.4 in your projects do not throw out V1.2.4 as those same snapshots may not be in V1.3.1.

All snapshots saved as snapshot banks should still import properly in V1.3.1

!!!!Warning!!!! - Do not throw out Hyroglyphicus V1.2.4 - !!!!Warning!!!!

NEW FEATURES IN V1.3.1...

All sequencers now have Randomize with selectable polarity (-/+).

All arpeggiators now have Randomize with Scale locking options.

The distortion types have been overhauled and improved.*

*Some snapshots may sound differently because of this

Oscillator Amplifier ADSR's now have modulation ability.

The Distortion Rack, Tonal FX Rack and Reverb Rack no longer have a master on/off switch's, all snapshots should still behave and sound the same as before. (Except for some distortion types (Hyperbolic Saturator and Parabolic Saturator specifically)

there are several internal improvements and optimizations

All mod envelopes, LFO's, pattern performers and MBP envelopes now have a selectable re-trigger menu. you can set the modulators to re-trigger from any of the sequencers or from a note in.

!!!End of V1.3.1 updater info!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hyroglyphicus Updated to Version 1.2.4 on Tuesday May 5th 2015

A few internal bug fixes have been made as well as a few minor internal improvements.

all snapshots made with previous versions should be compatible with the newest version.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hyroglyphicus Updated to Version 1.2.1 on August 12th 2014

There is a whole new and improved video tutorial series explaining every part of Hyroglyphicus available here...

www.youtube.com/michaelohaganmusic

Several bug fixes have been made as well as several new features added.

the problem with the skywarp X/Y pad not recalling correctly on snapshots has been fixed.

The skywarp follow command behavior has been improved.

A separate folder with the missing samples has been added.

The New features are as follows...

A New improved portamento system compliments of Colin Brown (ColB), with time and rate options as well as an envelope re-trigger option.

A new and improved master sequencer taken from Step Seq v4.5r by Michael Lancaster. Has note tie, swing, repeat, step skip, and tuning options.

There is a new master tempo ratio option for 4/1, 2/1, 1/1, 1/2, 1/4 so you can double or half the speed of all tempo synced modulators without having to manually find and adjust them all individually.

All Modulation sequencers, pattern performers and arpeggiators now have individual swing parameters with a global swing command.

There is now a multi-output routing section under the master sequencer.

!!!END OF UPDATE INFORMATION!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is Hyroglyphicus, my master creation.

watch the overview and guide videos here.

www.youtube.com/michaelohaganmusic

Its basically a 4 osc multi mode mono synth with 7 selectable oscillator types and many modulatiuon and FX options.

anolog wavetable
digital wavetable
Waldorf Microwave XT re creation (By Riccardo Ferri)
Additive math based oscillator (Like lazerbass) (By Riccardo Ferri)
A Sample skanner By NI
A Shape oscillator by Salamander Anagram
a 4x4 additive system by salamander anagram.

there are parts in here made by probably 10 different reaktor builders from oscillator modules to FX systems to the multiple sequencer types.

Thanks to the following reaktor builders.

Salamander Anagram (2 Osc types & some Filters)
Riccardo Ferri(4 Osc Types)
Florian Schwehn (Multi breakpoint distortion shaper)
Vedran Vuk (Note arpeggiators/Seq)
michael lancaster (Step Seq V1.5)
Stephan V(Pattern Performer)

and so many more who's names I don't know.

Thanks to all the reaktor builders in general.

it helps to have a strong CPU as this thing is power hungry.

It was built on a 2008 macbook 2.1 ghz core 2 duo and some snapshots run as high as %50 cpu.

there are over 450 snapshots included.

Enjoy.

To Mark, I have no idea what your talking about, the levels have always been a bit low by design, are you using multi out mode?
Mark Bonnington
The volume levels on this are way too high; I moved the volume slider nearly to zero and still the signal was pushing into the red. If you're going to create ensembles you should get your volume levels correct so you don't cause damage to ears and speakers.

To Joseph Smith, I don't know what to tell you, this has never happened on my system. You should just be able to browse to the folder with the samples and select them, there are several hundred snapshots that don't require the samples at all, I can't imagine why you'd get no sound at all.
joseph Smith

I get no sound from the synth but there is a folder with 5 samples and they are the ones listed in an error message I get. How do I get these into the synth? The prompt asks me if I want to find the "missing" files then directs me to a bunch of untitled things that are unrelated to Hyroglyphicus!
michael o'hagan
if you get an error message asking for "CRX Wave Assembler edit.wav" just skip it as I don't have the original file anymore and it wasn't used in any snaps anyway. it went into the skanner osc wave slot #6, just drop any file you want in there instead.

The portamento didn't go out of tune on my end, I tried it standalone and in Digital Performer. Is anyone else having this issue?

wow this synth is fantastic, love it! I wish the portamento worked properly though, it seems to go out of tune using the portamento. Maybe I've got it set up wrong...brilliant work.

The only sample maps that are in the ensemble are used in the 5 LFO's, all samples on my end show that they are embedded and should be saved into the ensemble. I think this might be an issue with Reaktor 6 and I don't know how to fix that on my end as I am still using Reaktor 5.

Your 1.3 ensemble seems to reference some files - https://www.dropbox.com/s/91cpztl4bqsldgv/reaktorensemblesnap4649.png?dl=0 Which ones do you need for your awesomely complicated synth? This error reporting seems to be slightly different in reaktor 5. I was using reaktor 6. Can you dereference the wav files?
michael o'hagan

I can't imagine whats happening, none of those samples you listed are a part of hyroglyphicus, there are only 5 audio samples used at all, the five in the samples folder that are used in the skanner oscillator. All of the other file names you listed are used in a project that I finished a few years ago, they have nothing to do with hyroglyphicus, I can't imagine why its asking for samples that are not a part of this ensemble. I'm sorry to say this but I have no idea how to fix this as it's not happening on my system and no one else seems to be having these problems. All those samples are from Aries... http://www.native-instruments.com/en/reaktor-community/reaktor-user-library/entry/show/6861/ They were never used in Hyroglyphicus at all. I don't know whats happening.

I downloaded the zip for 1.3 and unzipped it. I dragged the ensemble from that folder and reaktor says "some external samples cannot be found (20 remain missing). Would you like to locate /library/audio/plug-ins/samples & content/9-wavetables/mx4 wavetables/bosch complete-24.wav now?" It does that for other samples. Hyroglyphicus Samples is a folder in the zip file you have which contains Rayblaster Original 1.wav Carbon+Oki (Oki to same level) 1024.wav Bosch Complete -24.wav Malstrom-Tibetan Monks.wav Malstrom-Formant Saw.wav. You seem to reference some wav files I don't have.
michael o'hagan

To Joe king, I'm not sure what error you are talking about, the samples are included in the download folder, they should be embedded into the samplers anyway, but there is an error in Reaktor where sometimes they do not stay embedded. could you explain your issue a little more clearly.

Adding a randomize is not going to happen for several reasons, I do not recommend using the snapshot randomize either as it tends to create some crazy kinds of errors that I cannot explain nor fix.

Wonderful Inspiration here. So many things, so it seems unfair to ask, but any chance of any sound/seq randomize in the future ?

A heartbreaking work of staggering genius :) Man, this thing has really come together in the latest update. For those of you having trouble, try unzipping everything and then pointing Reaktor to the one file that it asks for by name..after that it will see the rest.

I think this ensemble is awesome. It's one of the few I've seen that seem to acknowledge that it's computer based, and not a physical machine with knobs and sliders that someone tried to reproduce on a computer screen. Mike, you obviously put a lot of effort into rethinking that, and I admire and appreciate your work.

This is an extremely deep synth, to a degree that I haven't really come across before, inside or outside the reaktor platform. I am missing the 5 wav files of scanner too, so I'm waiting eagerly for the 1.2 update. Many, many thanks to Michael!

I am currently working on version 1.2, a few bug fixes and some small enhancements have been made, I will add the .wav files in a separate folder when I update it, but they should be embedded already, I'm not sure why some people are having issues and not others. but I will update this soon.

Very impressed by this! Can't wait to learn it inside out. Thanks. I'm also encountering the same problem with 5 wavetable .wav files missing.

Very deep. Supremely impressed. The Youtube videos are essential and worth watching. This makes me glad I'm a Reaktor user. Only issue: When I open the ensemble, 5 .wav files are missing, which I assume to be the waves for the Skanner oscillator.

Problem is NI combines all files in one directory + all rtf files have same name. After unzipping them one by one I managed to find the right one. Tricky ! Thanks for your reply :)
michael o'hagan
when I download this I get 4 folders, Hyroglyphicus Drums, Hyroglyphicus Drum Seq, Hyroglyphicus FX, and Hyroglyphicus Synth. The NI server combined all of the Hyroglyphicus ensembles together into a directory, I have no control over this. Each of the folders has an ensemble file and an rtf for my youtube page where the video manual is hosted. the Hyroglyphicus synth folder has an rtf with the proper final download link, as the ensemble was too large for the user library limit.
michael o'hagan
you need to open the rtf file from Hyroglyphicus synth folder and follow the download link, the ensemble is too big for the UL so its hosted elsewhere.

Hi Michael I'm having the same problem as Fernando mentioned just above. In zip : 4 rtf files, all have same name, when I unzip them I get only one file : www.youtube.com_michaelohaganmusic.rtf So I basically dont get the download link. Could you re-upload with different filenames please ?

The ZIP includes a lot of files with invalid file names, which makes it basicallt unusable. Please check the names (avoid anything with : in them) and reupload.

whenever I update the text to add new info NI servers automatically add a .1, the synth is version 1.0, but I have edited the text twice so it says 1.2, I wish it didn't do that but I have no control over NI's website or servers. the synth is actually V1.0 only

A couple of notes about my stuff after a look on the structure: 1 - the wavetable osc structure has been hugely modified from mine, i can barely see my stuff tbh, so it's a bit different, the only drawback i've noticed for now is that it takes ages to load the waves. 2 - The Microwave XT OSC lacks the Sine Bank Additive part entirely and consequentially its waveform editor. 3 - The Super OSC is not from me, is from the Mega VCO By Matthias Schaffner (that is a modified version of the SuperSaw module from Ampere Modular by Chet Singer) thaaaat's all make some noiseee then!! :)

nice to see it finished, my name is Riccardo Ferri by the way, with 2 C, i'm Italian, not Spanish :) Credits to me also for formant oscillator modification and for the wavetable oscillator that i've made from scratch and it took an insane amount of time :) Kudos also to AdventureKid that is the main source for most of the wavetable oscillator waveforms. And thanks to all the forums users that helped me on various stages of this (and other) projects!! www.riccardoferri.net
