Noire distorting when played loud on cheap speakers?

    Hi guys,

I bought Noire last week, absolutely stunned by the sound of it, however I'm running into an annoying problem when mixing: the samples seem to distort on small/cheap speakers (i.e. my macbook and my Iphone) on max volume.

I'm using the 'Scoring' preset with some added tonal depth, very little compression, nothing fancy really. I have tried multiple other presets (also the basic Pure one) and the same problem occurs. Limiter is on -3db which is not loud at all, peaks are hardly touching the threshold, I've done some EQ'ing (there seems to be some frequency build up around 300hz and 1k hz), but I can't get rid of the distorting sound without sacrificing that gorgeous piano sound.

Anyone having the same problem? Ideas/opinions?

    Cheers,
    Pieter

Don't use max volume then. :)

Haha, yeah well it doesn't distort with other mixes, so I figured I should be able to play it on loud volume without problems.

Check the gain staging then - instrument volume, Kontakt instance master volume, etc. It's possible you're distorting the limiter, too.
