I recently purchased a Maschine Mikro Mk3 and I don't really understand how to set it up on reaper.

I have the latest version of Maschine. I tried it and I didn't like it as a DAW. I've been using reaper for years so I decided to use Maschine as a vst in reaper. Basically I just want to record the midi coming from maschine as you'd normally would with any other vst, but maschine keeps recording it in itself instead of reaper which is extremely frustrating. I've already watched every video I could find but I guess there's not a lot of people using maschine and reaper so they are very outdated. I don't want to have to use maschine to edit the beat, I don't wanna get the .wav files from maschine. I just want to press record and record the midi into one track and if I need to edit it I can just use reaper's editor. There's no need to add 1000 more steps. Why would I want a DAW inside a DAW?

That way won't work. Maschine does not output midi. You can only run it as an instrument in Reaper and it start/stops with Reaper's play button.
The only thing you can do, is to export a single pattern as midi and import it into Maschine.

The limits of Maschine are sometimes frustrating. My workflow let me now often decide, depending on kind of music, if I will use Reaper or Maschine. For example EDM, its often easier with Maschine. But if you have for example upbeats (note before a patter, which belongs to a pattern), you will get crazy with Maschine. It's a shame as Maschine is realy great for a quick result and Reaper is a lot more effort. So I am not happy with both.
