  • 8 types of string bowing for tutti, sections, and soloists
  • 4 dynamic shapes (crescendo to decrescendo) recorded in 3 different tempi controllable via keyswitch
  • Adaptability — change the notes of the performance across the contour of the selected shape

What is String Contours?

A contour is a recorded performance with a fixed length and dynamic shape. For example a swell with 1 bar of crescendo leading into 1 bar of decrescendo with a bow change in the middle of it.
String Contours allows you to play these performances and seamlessly change notes without triggering a new performance. You always stay within the initial performance's dynamic shape and phrasing. This leads to a realistic and fitting vibrato, as well as dynamic flow without any MIDI CC programming, allowing high quality results as well as a more minimalistic approach to composing.

Is String Contours compatible with my DAW?

Yes, String Contours works in all major DAWs, including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Pro Tools, Reaper and Cubase.

Can I use the sounds from String Contours in my commercial projects royalty-free?

All presets and sounds in String Contours are royalty-free and copyright cleared for use in your commercial projects. Your purchase includes a commercial license, allowing you to use these sounds in any professional recording without further legal obligations.

What is Kontakt?

Kontakt is the industry-standard sampling platform used by the world’s top producers and composers. It acts as a "host" for thousands of different virtual instruments – from hyper-realistic orchestral libraries and rare vintage synths to modern pop keys. You can use Kontakt as a standalone application or as a plugin within your DAW to play, edit, and layer these sounds into your tracks.
If you’re just looking to play Kontakt instruments, Kontakt Player is the free version that runs all NI Kontakt instruments, plus loads from third-party developers.

Is String Contours a VST instrument?

Technically, no, it’s a Kontakt instrument.
However, it functions just like a VST instrument in your DAW.
While musicians and producers often use "VST" as a catch-all term for any virtual instrument, String Contours is formatted specifically as a Kontakt library (.nki). To use it, you simply load String Contours inside Kontakt or the free Kontakt Player. Since Kontakt itself runs as a VST3, AU, or AAX plugin inside your DAW, the end result is identical: you open it, play it, and automate it just like any traditional VST.
