世界初のシンセサイザーの一つ

Hammond Novachordは1938年に初めて製造されました。72鍵のポリフォニックモンスターで、163本の真空管を使ってオシレーターを駆動しています。ピアノでもオルガンでもないその音色は、当時の人々には奇妙に映り、誤解されることもありましたが、その不思議で神秘的なサウンドは映画やテレビの作曲家たちに愛用されるようになります。 「風と共に去りぬ」「マルタの鷹」「レベッカ」「フランケンシュタインの館」「アウターリミッツ」「トワイライトゾーン」など、数々の映画やテレビ番組でノヴァコードの音が使われました。
