Kontrol MK3 Keyboard Panel Layout

All of the S-series Mk3 keyboards have the same layout, just with differing keyboard lengths.

Rear Panel Connections

If you turn the Kontrol MK3 so that the rear panel is facing you, the controls and connections appear in the following order, working from left-to-right:

  • Power button.

  • USB-C host socket for connection to a computer. This is inset within a circular depression.

  • USB-C power socket. This socket is contained within an oval depression and is only intended to connect to a USB-C 5V power supply.

  • Sustain pedal 6.35mm (1/4”) socket.

  • Expression pedal 6.35mm (1/4”) socket.

  • Assign 1 pedal 6.35mm (1/4”) socket. This socket has a moulded bump under it.

  • Assign 2 pedal 6.35mm (1/4”) socket.

  • 5-pin DIN MIDI In socket with a moulded bump under it.

  • 5-pin MIDI Out socket.

Top Panel

The top panel of the Kontrol MK3 controller is made up of several blocks of controls, called zones, described below (please note that the functions enclosed in square brackets represent what the control will do when it is used with the Shift button held down). The names of the zones used in the description below are the same as the names used to describe zones in the Accessibility Helper window:

Control Zone

This is the row of three buttons at the top-left of the top panel. From left to right:

  • Shift.

  • Undo [Redo].

  • Quantize.

Transport Zone

This is the block of six buttons at the bottom-left of the controller’s top panel, below the Control Zone. The buttons are arranged in two rows of three. From left-to-right, the top row contains:

  • Loop.

  • Metro [Tempo].

  • Automate.

The bottom row contains:

  • Play [Restart].

  • Record [Count-In].

  • Stop.

Settings/Play Assist/MIDI Zone

This zone is made up of the top two buttons of the column of buttons to the left of the display screen. From top to bottom:

  • Play Assist.

  • Settings [MIDI].

Button Zone

This is the row of eight buttons arranged above the display screen. Their functions change, depending on what page of the screen you are in, so they will all have functions relating to the Browser if you are in the Browser Page.

The Non-Interactive Screen Zone

The display screen is positioned immediately below the Buttons Zone.

Knob Zone

This is the row of eight touch-sensitive knobs positioned directly beneath the display screen. Like the Buttons, their functions change, depending on what page of the screen you are currently in.

Mode Zone

This zone is the row of three buttons positioned to the right of the display screen. From left to right:

  • Browser.

  • Plug-In.

  • DAW.

4-D encoder Zone

This control is positioned below the Mode Zone buttons. The 4-D encoder can be turned, like a knob, but it can also be pressed up, down, left and right. Finally, it can be pressed, like a button.

Keyb Settings Zone

This is the row of three buttons that are positioned on the small panel to the left of the keyboard. From left to right:

  • Fixed Velocity.

  • Octave Down [Semitone Down].

  • Octave Up [Semitone Up].

  • Below the Keyb Zone buttons are the following controls:

  • A horizontal touch strip.

  • The Pitch Bend wheel (on the left).

  • The Modulation Wheel (on the right).
